Many SEO analysis sites offer the same tools and features.

So rather than give you a long personal anecdote on why I think you should use one service over another, instead, I'll go over the main tools, pricing, and free trial of 5 Ahrefs alternatives so you can come to your own conclusion.

But first, let's cover Ahrefs before heading to the Ahrefs alternatives. 

After all, it's hard to compare services if you don't have a control.

The audit looks at:

Automated audit crawls only take a few minutes, with the report appearing in your email inbox.

Scrolling lower on the page reveals the keyword ideas based on the search term.

These ideas are generated based on phrase match, similar terms, and autocomplete queries.

1. Google Search Console

What is Google Search Console?

Google Search Console is a free web service provided by Google.

Formerly known as Google Webmaster, this service allows domain owners to check the indexing status and visibility of their site on Google search results and Google Discover.

The main reports include:

    • Total clicks
    • Total impressions
    • Average CTR
    • Average position
  • Indexing
    • Coverage
    • Sitemaps
    • Removals
  • Enhancements
    • Core Web Vitals
    • Mobile Usability


Google Search Console Reports and Tools 

Google Search Console's URL Inspection Tool

Google Search Console URL inspection

Search for a specific page on your site and use the URL inspection to:

  • Check the URL is appearing in Google Search results
  • See if the page is on the sitemap
  • Verify the page was crawled by a Googlebot
  • View when the page was crawled
  • Know if the page is mobile-friendly

Also, test the live URL and request reindexing if a page was updated.


Google Search Console's Performance Reports

Check your Google Search results and Google Discover performances for any date range. Search results appear on Google after searching for a term while Google Discover is a mobile experience that suggests content based on users' search activity. 

Both reports allow you to view total clicks, total impressions, and average click-through-rate. However, the average position is only available on the Google Search results report. 

Filter by:

  • Queries (i.e. keywords)
  • Your sites' pages
  • Countries
  • Devices
  • Appearance 
  • Date

Queries and devices are not filters for Google Search results given content is automatically suggested on mobile devices only. 


Google Search Console's Index Tools

Google Search Console Indexed Sitemap

Coverage, Sitemaps, and Removals are the three features included with the indexing tool.

Under Coverage view:

  • Page errors
  • Valid pages with warnings
  • Valid Pages
  • Excluded Pages

Scroll down to the Coverage Details section and click on any of the statuses to get more information on the arrow and validate a fix.

The Sitemaps section is where you can add new sitemaps for Google's bots to crawls. Sitemaps allow browsers to quickly index your site. 

I highly recommend creating a sitemap if you want to rank on Google.

Finally, there is the Removals tool that allows you to submit a request to remove a page from Google Search.

Submit requests for pages that no longer exist or ones that do not need to show up on Google.

This last category of tools checks the mobile usability of your pages in addition to Core Web Vitals.

The Core Web Vitals tool offers mobile and desktop reports for visual stability, speed, and responsiveness of your site.  

The Mobile Usability tool displays the readability, clickability, and presentation of page content on mobile devices.
